• Secrets of parquet board care

    15.10.2021

Manufacturers of parquet boards do everything to ensure that their products serve as long as possible, and their appearance does not lose their attractiveness. To do this, the wood is well dried, and the working layer is covered with several layers of varnish or oil. That is, for the first few years, all floor care will be reduced to ordinary cleaning, dry or wet. Of course, a lot depends on the brand of the board. For example, the Tarkett parquet board has a 30-year warranty on the safety of the varnish coating. The Swedish company is so confident in its Proteco varnishes that it is not afraid to make such promises.

    How to clean parquet board?

The general cleaning rules are very simple. You can wash the floor as usual, the main condition is to squeeze the rag very well so that it is not too wet. Even with a thick protective layer, a large amount of water can leave a mark on the parquet board. In order to clean the floor from dust and dirt, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a soft bristle nozzle, but you will have to forget about the washing vacuum cleaner.

How often should parquet boards be washed? If there is no need to remove sand or dirt, then you should not abuse the frequent cleaning of the wooden floor. But you should not leave dirt for a day, as small particles can play the role of an abrasive and leave micro-scratches on the protective coating.

Important! Any spilled liquid should be wiped dry as soon as possible. Especially if it is coffee, red wine, juice and other colored drinks.

When wet cleaning the floor, you can use a detergent. But it doesn't have to be regular soap or an all-purpose liquid for all surfaces in the house. It is better to use a special care product, which is available separately for varnish and oil coatings. The product is diluted in water, it can not be poured onto the floor.

In addition to regular cleaning products, it is useful to purchase cleaning wax for oiled parquet boards, and polishes and cleaning sprays for varnished parquet. Such products are very economical, they can be diluted with water. Therefore, you should not save on them: they will pay off with a long service life of a wooden floor.

    1. Wash the floor parallel to the grain of the wood, not across.
    2. Do not place pots with indoor plants on the floor, as they will cause condensation to accumulate on the surface.
    3. Avoid scratches on the floor from furniture, sharp heels, and animal claws. Stick felt pads on the legs of the furniture (they can be cut from ordinary felt).
    4. If there is a chair or roller chair in the room with hardwood flooring, buy a clear plastic mat. The place under the office chair wears out first! The rug will not be very noticeable and will retain the original appearance of the parquet.
    5. Monitor indoor humidity. The parquet board does not like too dry or humid air. The permissible range is from 30 to 60% at a temperature of 20-240C.
    6. Forget all the "grandmother's" recipes that teach you to erase marks from the soles and stains from cosmetics or ink with turpentine, gasoline, acetone and other chemicals. So you not only do not remove the stain, but also dissolve the protective coating around it. If the stain is fresh, it can be removed with water and detergent.
    7. When moving furniture, put a rug under it so as not to scratch the valuable layer of the board.

Features of caring for a lacquered floor

Lacquer layers form a protective film on the surface of the parquet board, so moisture and dust do not reach the wood. It is not difficult to remove dirt from a glossy varnish film, the main thing is to keep its shine as long as possible. To do this, you need to wash the floor with not too hot water and use a polish about once every 2 months.

The nuances of caring for a parquet board under oil

The oil protects the wood in a different way: it does not form a film, but is absorbed into the pores of the board, pushing out moisture from the inside. Therefore, a parquet board under oil is more vulnerable to minor damage. But this disadvantage is compensated by the fact that such a floor is easily amenable to local restoration. To do this, use oil or oil with wax of the same brand that was applied by the manufacturer. There is also a damage masking wax, which is rubbed into the area of the floor with scratches or crevices.

Do not forget that caring for a parquet board begins with creating optimal conditions in the apartment. Monitor the humidity and temperature, ventilate the rooms more often. It is not only beneficial for the wood floor, but also for you and your family!
