• How to make a yo-yo at home? DIY home crafts: ideas for decoration and interior Handmade soap

    18.10.2023
    Yo-yo is the name of a toy that has been known since ancient Greece. Structurally, it consists of two identical disks, connected in the center by an axis to which a rope is attached. Despite such simplicity, experienced craftsmen can do such things with a yo-yo that no one, even the most demanding viewer, remains indifferent to such a spectacle. Today in stores you can buy yo-yos of various designs, with counterweights, bearings and other devices that make it easier to perform tricks. However, the simplest version of such a toy can be made independently. For what? It's just interesting!

    Operating principle

    The yo-yo's operation is based on the law of universal gravitation. When “launched”, due to the mass of the disks, the toy flies down, while the rope wound around the axis unwinds and when its supply runs out, the structure begins to move upward. If you do not give the system additional impulses from the outside, then after a while the movement will stop. However, it is enough to make a light, short wave of your hand at the right moment for the toy to spin with renewed strength and speed. This way the fun can go on forever.

    Option No. 1 - thread spool

    If you think about it, the classic version of the yo-yo in appearance resembles a wooden spool of thread of the old Soviet type. Surely, many remember this wooden cylinder with a hole in the middle and two sides at the ends. Therefore, the easiest way to make a toy is to use this similarity.

    The first step is to install a counterweight. In order for the yo-yo to spin well, picking up speed as it moves, you need to hammer a small nail or metal rod into the hole in the middle of the coil. In this case, it is very important to evenly distribute the load, ensuring that the ends of the counterweight protruding from both sides of the coil have the same length. Otherwise, the toy will constantly shift, “breaking” its flight path, and it will be very difficult to perform even the simplest tricks with it.

    Then comes the turn of the disks. Their role can be played by circles cut from tin cans. They bend easily, and after processing they hold the shape they were given well. Both disks must perfectly match in shape and size, so it is better to use pre-prepared templates and patterns for their manufacture. The edges need to be bent so that after fastening they look inside the toy. When everything is ready, all that remains is to secure the blanks to the ends of the coil with glue.

    You can also adapt ordinary plastic bottle caps for discs. The advantage of this option is that the lids already have the required shape, so you don’t have to worry about processing them.

    Option No. 2 – wheels

    An excellent material for making yo-yos are wheels from roller skates, skateboards, etc. Their advantage is that such products have absolutely the same shape, weight, and are also equipped with bearings, which contributes to improved movement of the toy. In addition, the problem of their connection is successfully solved, since the wheels are already threaded. There should also be no problems with selecting an axle and attaching a rope to it. The only drawback is its heavy weight, which makes the toy dangerous, especially for small children and inexperienced players. So only those who have already mastered the basic basics of handling it can equip themselves with such a yo-yo.

    Option No. 3 – drink cans

    First, the side parts are prepared from the empty cans. To do this, cut off the upper part with a sharp knife or special scissors - you only need the bottom and a strip of tin above it about 1 cm wide. The edges turn out to be very sharp, so if you don’t take measures, the player could easily cut himself if he moves carelessly. Therefore, you need to further process the cut by going over it with a file, and then slightly bending the edge inward.

    To make an axle, you will need an ordinary stationery pencil, but not a ribbed one, but a round one. You need to cut a fragment about 3 cm long from it, and try to make the edge as even as possible. Next, having found the center of the bottom of the jar, you should make a hole in it, the diameter of which is slightly less than the thickness of a pencil. The same must be done with the second circle, and then put both blanks on the pencil with the sides facing outward. Liquid nails are used to secure the discs. At the same time, the problem of making the product heavier is solved by adding metal shavings to the glue.

    Securing the rope

    This is a very important stage of work. There are several things to consider.

    Firstly, the length - it must correspond to the height.

    Secondly, strength, since the twine gets a serious load.

    Thirdly, fastening. You can, of course, simply tie the rope to the axle, but such a move will significantly limit the trick potential. The only thing that will be possible in this case is the mechanical movement of the structure up and down. Therefore, you need to make a loop at the end of the thread, the size of which allows you to freely put it on the axle. In this case, having reached the bottom point of its trajectory, the yo-yo will not rush up, but will rotate at the end of the rope until the player pulls it up.

    The opposite end of the rope should be attached to an object that is comfortable to hold in your hands. This could be an ordinary door handle, consisting of two identical parts connected on an axis. You can attach a yo-yo leash to it.

    The idea of making a bouquet of paper flowers is very good. To make paper crafts, we will need to purchase colored paper, cardboard, markers, a stationery knife, tape, scissors and PVA glue.

    Paper bouquet

    First you need to make three blanks for each flower, two of which should be the same color, they should have six petals.

    Place one blank in front of you and glue a circle on top of it.

    On the mug, first make holes for the eyes and mouth in the form of a smiley face.

    After gluing the mug with the flower, you need to color the eyes with a black felt-tip pen, and then bend the petals inward.

    The next step is to cut out the stem, which we then attach to the flower, and on the other side of the flower we need to attach the same blank.

    You can also make leaves for the bouquet, which can be made from green paper.

    First you need to draw an oval and cut it out, and then use scissors to make notches.

    In order for individual pieces of paper crafts to become a single whole, tie the flowers with ribbon or some other fabric to decorate the bouquet.

    This bouquet will never fade and will be an excellent decoration for your home.

    Simple crafts from plastic bottles

    The simplest crafts for children include bottle crafts.

    For example, from a bottle you can make a piggy bank, which requires only a marker, a stationery knife, dice (4 pieces), a small bottle, glue and colored paper.

    The first step is to cut a straight line, the width of which can be 5 centimeters, and the length of this line should be enough to encircle the bottle.

    We draw eyes with a marker, and draw nostrils on the bottle cap. Using a utility knife, cut a hole for coins.

    As legs for the pig, you need to attach the dice using glue.

    Note!

    This craft develops a child’s imagination and is also useful in everyday life.

    Ball of thread

    The craft can be used as a lampshade for a lamp or simply hung as a decoration.

    A ball of thread is made very simply; to make it you will need colored threads, a ball, and transparent glue.

    First, we need to inflate the balloon and tie its tip so that the air does not escape.

    Then you need to wrap the inflated ball with threads, then apply glue to the surface of the ball and wait until it dries.

    Note!

    Now you need to separate the ball from the threads, to do this, just pierce it with a needle and the craft is ready.

    Plasticine gnome and pine cones

    As a simple DIY craft, you can make a gnome. For the craft you will need a pine cone, light-colored plasticine, pieces of fabric, glue and a brush.

    First of all, the child should roll a ball out of a piece of plasticine, after which, using a brush, they need to make indentations for the nose, eyes and mouth on the ball.

    At the next stage of our craft, we need to attach the resulting head to the top of the cone.

    Then the child must cut out a triangle from the fabric and glue it on the sides, resulting in a cone. The cone will act as a hat for our character.

    Note!

    Finally, you need to make mittens from fabric, and then attach them to the pine cone using plasticine and our gnome from the pine cone is ready.

    Paper bookmark

    A paper bookmark is perfect as a simple craft for kindergarten. For children to be able to make this simple craft, they will need a pencil, ruler, colored paper, scissors and glue.

    To begin, children must draw a square measuring 20 by 20 centimeters.

    Then divide the resulting square into 4 equal parts using a pencil and ruler, resulting in 4 squares measuring 5 by 5 centimeters.

    The second step is to divide the upper right and lower left squares in such a way as to obtain triangles, that is, you need to draw a line diagonally from the upper corner to the lower corner.

    We don't need the triangles with the outside and can cross them out.

    Then you need to cut out a figure from paper without taking into account the crossed out triangles.

    The top triangle needs to be trimmed. If everything is done correctly, the paper will be in the shape of a diamond, to which two triangles are glued.

    The next step is to fold all the triangles in half, and then one by one place them on the tip of the rhombus. You should end up with a pocket that fits over the tip of the book page.

    To make a bookmark original, you can advise children to cut out some kind of applique from colored paper.

    Butterflies from bottles

    The topic of plastic bottles, as they say, is not fully covered. We offer to create original crafts with your own hands using available materials at home. Beautiful butterflies will “flutter” around the house, and for this you need affordable and simple things:

    • tweezers;
    • centers of plastic bottles;
    • toothpicks;
    • butterfly patterns;
    • shiny rhinestones, beads, sequins;
    • marker;
    • nail polish;
    • scissors.

    Let's get started:

    1. You can download butterfly templates on the Internet or cut them out from a children’s coloring book.
    2. Then cut out rectangles of the same size from the bottles, after removing any remaining glue and the label.
    3. Attach the plastic rectangle to the butterfly image. Using a marker, trace the outlines on the other side.
    4. Carefully start cutting out the butterfly, do not forget about the delicate legs and antennae.
    5. Add decorations to your taste. Use sequins, sparkles and varnishes. Small lines can be drawn with a toothpick.
    6. Paint over the original side with a black marker, then cover it with clear varnish.
    7. Now a beautiful butterfly has appeared in your home, which you can give to friends or decorate walls and curtains with it.

    Helicopter

    Necessary materials:

    • hairpin;
    • small plastic bottle;
    • three plastic tubes;
    • scissors;
    • ball.

    Let's get started:

    1. Use scissors to make a hole in the lid. Cut off the bottom of the bottle and cut out a strip.
    2. We cut the tubes into small pieces (see the picture) and connect them together.
    3. Now the individual parts of the helicopter need to be assembled and fastened with a stapler.

    Pirate ship

    We will need:

    • cardboard box;
    • black fabric for sails;
    • superglue or hot glue gun;
    • wooden skewers;
    • ruler;
    • sticks of various sizes;
    • pencil;
    • rope;
    • stationery knife;
    • black marker.

    Let's start tinkering:

    1. Cut the cardboard into pieces. On long pieces you need to draw a template for the side of the ship. Remember that the bow should be slightly raised (see photos).
    2. You will need two identical sides of the fuselage, two square pieces attached to the back, a rectangular strip of cardboard on the bottom - the front and a stern - on the nose. It is necessary to cut out the shapes exactly with the samples shown in the photo.
    3. Using superglue or a hot glue gun, glue the sides of the vessel together. We wait until the body dries.
    4. Then we glue the bottom, not forgetting that the bow of the vessel should rise up a little. Keep the cardboard in this position until the glue dries.
    5. Now we are preparing a piece of cardboard bent in the shape of the letter L, a piece of foam plastic in the shape of the letter C (equal in size to the diameter of the stick) and a stick for the mast. The cardboard should be the size of the ship (measured inside).
    6. Then we apply glue to the stick and attach it at right angles to the deck of the ship. For greater stability, we fix the mast with a piece of foam plastic.
    7. To make the effect as realistic as possible, we attach a piece of stick to the bow and connect it to the mast using a cord.
    8. Now we make two wooden skewers of the same size and fasten them perpendicular to the mast, all with the same cord. We will tie a sail to them. Cut out a rectangle from black fabric, which should be slightly longer than the distance between the skewers. You can decorate it as you wish. Tie the sail to the mast.
    9. All that remains is to make a hole along the fabric and stretch a cord through it, tie it to the skewers (each hole separately).
    10. We attach the board (with the help of which the pirates will force the enemies to throw themselves into the sea).

    That's all, the pirate ship can be used for a year, you can even ride dolls around the sea in it!
