    13.10.2021

    Wooden floors have been used as the main flooring for the home for many centuries, they are also highly environmentally friendly and have a beneficial effect on our health. And laying a wooden floor on logs is available even to non-professional builders. But in order to lay a wooden floor securely, you need to know some tricks and features of this process. Let's look at them in more detail below.

    Choosing wood for the floor

    It is possible to apply the laying of a rough wooden floor, i.e. using a conventional non-planed board. Typically, this floor is equipped in utility rooms or its installation involves subsequent fine finishing.

    But, as a rule, a wooden floor is made in a final version using a planed dry board. In this case, you do not need additional finishing - you just need to lay the wooden floor.

    It is very important to purchase a quality tree and correctly calculate the amount of material.

    You can do this by following simple rules:

    1. It is necessary to use, but not completely dried, since overdried or wet material will certainly cause the floor to warp during use.
    2. The entire surface of the board must be even and very smooth, without chips, knots, cracks and without traces of visible mold.
    3. An accurate calculation of the amount of materials needed is necessary.
    4. Buy boards from 2 m long, and buy material from the same batch so that the wood pattern is uniform.
    5. It is convenient to use a cut board for laying, which does not need subsequent grinding.

    Before laying a wooden floor, you should also decide on the type of wood. Cedar, pine, spruce or larch are suitable for installation and installation in a residential building.

    Installation of a concrete base under wooden logs

    Concrete must be cleaned of construction debris and all potholes and cracks removed.

    Pinofol or a thick polyethylene film, which is laid with an overlap of 20 cm, is considered a waterproofing material.

    After the laying of wooden logs begins.

    Soil preparation for wooden logs

    If you need to lay a wooden floor on the ground, then the preparatory work will be quite laborious than installing on a concrete base.

    Initially, around the entire perimeter of the room, you need to remove a layer of soil, while you need to go deeper below ground level by 20 cm. Next, a layer of rubble is poured, and after - river sand.
    Each subsequent layer must be moistened with water and compacted. It is also necessary to lay a waterproofing layer to protect the log and wooden floor from moisture. And after that, they immediately proceed to the installation of wooden logs.

    Highlights when laying wooden logs

    Laying pipes under the floor

    Before laying, the logs are treated with a special water-repellent composition, and left for several days to dry. Supports for logs are brick columns, about 40 cm high and 2 bricks wide. They are installed on a cement mortar and made necessarily the same over the entire height.

    Use a level for better control. Two extreme columns go to one log, and with a long board, they put an additional column in the middle.

    And the step between adjacent wooden lags is determined by the thickness of the boards being laid, for example:

    1. For 40 cm boards, lags are installed every 80 cm;
    2. For 30 cm thin boards, the pitch will be 50 cm;
    3. With a board thickness of 40 cm, the step will be about 1 m.

    It is necessary to place the logs perpendicular to the sunlight.

    Initially, you need to lay two logs at opposite ends of the room. The correctness of the installation is checked. After that, it is necessary to pull the fishing line between the two lags and, guided by it, mount all the other lags.

    Fill all the voids between the lags with a special insulation. You can use mineral wool, which has high sound insulation and thermal insulation.

    After installing the log, you need to lay chipboard or plywood as a rough base. All sheets are attached to the logs with long nails, and the heads must be sunk.

    Laying a wooden floor on a screed

    A wooden floor can be installed on a concrete base. In this case, laying the floor is much easier.

    A waterproofing layer is laid on a concrete screed, for this they take a thick plastic film and lay it with an overlap of 20 cm on a concrete base.

    Before installing a wooden floor, moisture-resistant plywood is laid. In order to hide all the nail heads, it is necessary to expand the holes previously drilled in the screed through the plywood sheets a little from above.

    Do-it-yourself flooring in a wooden house

    Laying floors in a wooden house is quite simple.
    As a rule, the first board is attached opposite the entrance to the room, although the installation can start from any wall.

    The first line of boards is installed along the wall, their ends should be tightly pressed together. The use of a tongue and groove board allows you to rigidly fasten the planks to each other, because this material is a tongue on one side and a groove on the other.

    When installing, you need to step back from the walls by 10 mm, that is, make a certain temperature gap.

    All boards are nailed. Having installed the first row of boards, you may have a question, how to lay the wooden floor further? Everything is quite simple. The junction of a pair of boards of a new row must be located approximately in the middle of the board from the previous row, i.e. boards will be installed almost in a checkerboard pattern.

    On wooden poles

    Do not hit the board with a hammer - this may cause it to split. Just take a piece of board about 20 cm, and it will serve you perfectly as a finisher.

    After installing the board, fix the plinth along the perimeter of the room, covering a special technical gap. If you use a board for laying, then the wooden floor will need to be sanded and covered with special or paint. To remove possible cracks, you should use a putty designed specifically for wood.

    If this is your first time laying a wooden floor, then following these simple recommendations will quickly master this easy method:

    • The annual rings of all adjacent boards must be placed on opposite sides;
    • Before starting work, number the boards - this greatly simplifies the process;
    • Drive all the nails at an angle so that you can easily drive all the hats deep into the tree;
    • The last board will have to be sawn against the wall. It will need to be glued and nailed well.

    A wooden floor, laid according to all the rules, will serve you for many years and provide a good microclimate throughout the house.
